Current Situation
What is asthma/allergic/rhinitis/inflammatory diseases?
IgE-mediated Allergic asthma afflicted 20 million US citizens and 300 million people world-wide; IgE-mediated allergic rhinitis afflicted ~80 million in the US. Immune dysfunctions contribute to many chronic inflammatory diseases, including obese-onset diabetes, affecting US population across all ages, including school-age children.
Why should you care?
Among the asthmatics, allergic asthma is highly prevalent in children and adolescents amounting to 15% or so.
Severe allergic asthma children of Black and Hispanic origins in the impoverished neighborhood of the inner cities exhibit an unusual high mortality rate, 800% to 1,000 % more than that of the Caucasian and Chinese descent of a higher socio-economic status. Children in the emergency room are treated with expensive biologics such as monoclonal antibodies that remove the systemic and pulmonary pool of allergen specific IgE. The children surviving the onslaught of IgE are sent home without continuous treatment.
§ No-insurance
§ Treatment too expensive
The expense without HMO coverage is prohibitive ($35K to $50K per treatment cycle), available for severe allergic asthma patients who are qualified for the high premium insurance payment plans.
